Classic Children's Story With a Great Lesson- Charlie the Tramp Review and #Giveaway
Charlie the Tramp is a classic short story from the 60's. It's great seeing older books that are timeless pieces with the great lessons kids learn from. This story reminds kids that taking the easy way out isn't always the best thing. Charlie's parents let Charlie experience what Charlie wanted to experience to be a tramp instead of doing what beavers do. Charlie felt that he wanted the simple task of carrying sticks and nothing else.
"Tramps just tramp around and have a good time. They carry sticks with little bundles tied to them. They sleep in a field when the weather is nice, and when it rains they sleep in a barn"
Throughout this short story is Charlie's adventure as he tries to be a tramp. He grabs some snacks for when he is hungry and goes on his merry way.
Now Charlie at first enjoyed this; his first night out went great, he ate his snacks, slept and returned home the next day. He helped with some chores and left again in the evening to be a tramp once again.
But Charlie is a beaver and it is instilled in him to do beaver things. As Charlie is out being tramp the second night, he tries to sleep and he couldn't. Why you may ask, because he is a beaver and the trickling of the water he hears is like a song to his ears and he wants to contain the song. So Charlie began to do what beavers do and build his dam.
Charlie realizes he can't escape from being who he is, no matter how tedious the work may seem to be. The easy road may be okay for some, but not for others, especially when we are meant to do something.
Overall, this is a great short story written by Russell Hoban, Illustrated by Lillian Hoban to remind us to remain true to who we are. The easy way out of things is not what it seems to be. This book is definitely an older generation book with the illustration; however, it is a classic and teaches a valuable lesson.
Thanks for reading, now it's giveaway time! One lucky winner will be chosen to receive this great classic children's story.
